12 Dec 2019 – Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Laureate Abiy Ahmed, the winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize, was given a hero’s welcome at home (pictured) and told local media that he will “celebrate” the Noble Peace Prize achievement with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki “very soon”.
The PM said he would like to thank the people and leader of Eritrea again and that the award belongs to both countries.
Abiy was awarded the prize in recognition of his crucial role in creating peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
A poll here in Eritrean Press showed 85 per cent of its readers wanted the Ethiopian PM to stop by in Eritrea before he arrives in Ethiopia.
In honour of Ethiopia’s first Nobel Peace Prize winner, a 21-gun salute is also fired when he arrived in the capital city Addis Ababa.
