The House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) announced that the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged over 370 million USD in the form of donation to the construction of Ethiopia’s new parliament building.
The House Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson Tesfaye Daba told The Ethiopian Herald that the House’s parliamentary diplomacy activities are centered on economic diplomacy in
view to supporting government’s development goals.
The Chairperson noted that a delegation headed by the House Speaker Tagesse Chafo made meticulous diplomatic efforts during its recent visit to the UAE and the two parties reached consensus that the UAE government to donate the stated sum in the sign of good friendship.
According to Tesfaye, the construction of the new parliament building would have a significant role in availing a conducive environment for MPs and helping them to better executing activities.
He further stated that the Ethiopian parliamentary delegation also conferred with UAE counterpart in ways to enhance the two countries inter-parliamentary cooperation in a bid to invigorate bilateral ties.
The Ethio-UAE relations have shown all-round progress and their development cooperation is also growing time to time. The current Ethiopian Parliament building was built in the early 1930s and host the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation.
