At least 23 people have died and others injured after a car accident in East Gojjam Zone of Amhara Regional state.
The accident happened yesterday when Isuzu Truck has collided with two mini passenger buses and a three-wheeler in a place called Chereka at Dembecha District.
According to Desalegn Mekuria, traffic police at Dembecha Zuriya Woreda, the road traffic accident has occurred near a bridge which is close to the town.
All the passengers in the first bus were believed to be dead and only a few people from the second bus had survived.
So far, 16 people have been killed and police are investigating the exact number of dead.
Police believed that the cause of the accident is “probably over-speeding ”.
In Ethiopia, the number of deaths due to traffic accidents is reported to be amongst the highest in the world.
According to the latest WHO data published in 2017 Road Traffic Accidents Deaths in Ethiopia reached 27,140 or 4.27% of total deaths.
