The Ethiopian House of Federation passes a decision today to postpone the national population and housing census to the next year 2012.
After the members discuss the issue the House of Federation passes the decision to postpone the census by a majority vote, with 8 against, and four abstentions.
Similarly, the House of Representatives also decided to extend the census to 2012.
The two Houses are expected to hold discussions jointly in the issue.
The proposal should be approved by the joint session of the House of Federation and House of Peoples’ Representatives in order to postpone the census.
The Population and Housing Census Commission proposed the postponement of the national population and housing census until the internally displaced people repatriated to their villages.
