One student is killed and 10 others in injured in, Axum University after protests turned deadly in the northern city of Tigray, authorities confirmed.
Local media reports state that students from Axum University organized for protests Tuesday after a Tigrayan student at Debra Markos University in Amhara region was found dead under unclear circumstances.
Yohannes Masresha, a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student at Aksum University was killed by fellow students yesterday in what the University said was a “shameful act”.
According to students from the Axum University, in the previous days students were protesting at night but starting to yesterday the protest changed to day time.
Now security forces have entered to the University compound and tried to restore peace and security, the eye witness told AMMA.
It is also confirmed that the university held discussions with students to resolve the problem and expressed its condolences to the families of Yohannes & said it’s investigating the killing.
Authorities in the region failed to give further information about the death of the student but promised that further investigations into the matter is at forefront.
