Ethiopian Muslims celebrates Eid, the festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, across the country.
In the capital, Addis Ababa huge crowds arrived at and around the Addis Ababa stadium for Eid prayers early in the morning.
Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council President Mufti Haji Omer Idris, and Takele Umma, mayor of Addis Ababa city administration has joined the joyous crowd and attended the celebration.
Speaking on the occasion Mufti Haji Omer Idris, said “Eid is happiness which comes back every year, yet this year’s joy is double. ” he also thanked Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed for the establishment of Muslim Peace and Reconciliation Committee.
“Muslims in the country should stand vigilant against extremist elements,” he said.
For his part, Hajj Mohammed said the month of Ramadan was marked by intense prayers, compassion, and generosity which will remain the mark of Islam.
City Mayor Takele Umma in his part expressed he believes that this year’s peace and unity among the Muslim community will be continued to the future times.
Ethiopia which has the second most populous Muslim community in Sub-Saharan Africa had hosted the companions of Prophet Mohammed who fled persecution at the hands of the Quraish in the 4th century.
Yesterday, Prime Abiy Ahmed has participated with the city’s youth in the cleaning of the stadium and the surrounding for the Eid al Fitir prayer.
