Ethiopian Electoral Board Asks Parliament For $129 million Budget

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has asked the Parliament for 3.7 billion birr ($129 million USD) budget for the upcoming election.

The board had submitted the request to the Budget and Finance Affairs Standing Committee of the Parliament, according to Birtukan Medeksa, NEBE’s Chairperson.

She made the remark while briefing journalist today about the activities were undertaken during the past months to organize the national electoral board, which is accountable to the parliament.

Recently, the parliament passed a law to organize the electoral board in a manner that is independent from the influence of any other body and that enables it to conduct fair, credible, and peaceful election.
