Ethiopia signed an operating agreement on with Russia to utilize nuclear energy for medical, agricultural and industrial purposes, Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology announced today.
The agreement is signed between Getahum Mekuria (Dr Ing) minister at Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology and Alexey Likhachev, Chief Executive of Rosatom, Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation at the 11th International Forum ATOMEXPO 2019 Russia’s southern city of Sochi.
We want to use the nuclear technology. So as to upgrade medical services in the country, said Getahun when speaking at the signing ceremony.
Ethiopia has to end its dependency on rain to generate power for mega industries operating in the nation, he added.
The 11th annual forum Atomexpo 2019, which began earlier on Monday in the Russian city of Sochi, is bringing together more than 3,500 delegates, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said at the opening ceremony on Monday, adding that the current event saw a new high in terms of the number of foreign participants
