An Ethiopian woman has been arrested by the customs officials for allegedly smuggling 1.26 kg gold worth close to 1.6 million birr at Anna International Airport Chennai, India, local media reports.
Airport officials posted at the Airport Chennai detected as many as 10 cases of gold smuggling on Wednesday and Thursday morning, according to Deccan chronicles.
According to the report an Ethiopian national, by the name Muhubo Aden Muhamed, 56, who had arrived from Nairobi via Sharjah by Air Arabia flight, was intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall.
On being questioned whether she was carrying any gold, she was evasive in her replies and appeared to be nervous, the report reads.
