Seven political parties in Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today to form a joint front.
The parties that have agreed to create the alliance are All Ethiopia Unity Organization, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party, Ethiopian Democratic Unity, Ethiopian National Unity Party, Afar Peoples’ Justice and Democratic Party, Afar People’s Liberation Party and Oromo People’s Justice and Democratic Party.
The formation of the joint front is aimed at working together to realize a unified Ethiopia where democracy based on justice and equality prevails.
It is much better to work in an organized manner and in unison than in isolation, as was the case in the past, said the parties in a joint press statement today.
This has become a most pressing precondition in the current state of political affairs in Ethiopia, the parties remarked, adding, such a move would also help tackle attempts to reverse the ongoing national reform.
The front’s official code of practice and program will be designed and put into service in three months’ time and until then the MoU signed by the parties today would be serving as a provisional guideline, it was noted.
