Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday that 451 Ethiopian nationals who have been in prison for a variety of offense in Saudi Arabia are released.
According to the statement from MoFA, Saudi is agreed to release those inmates who were detained in different prisons including Jedda and Gizan areas.
Those Ethiopians are released after a diplomatic agreement made between the two nations and all will be returned home soon, according to the Ministry.
It is recalled that around 2400 Ethiopian citizens were released from Tanzania and returned home.
Following a request by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, during his official visit to Riyadh Saudi Arabia has agreed to release 1,000 Ethiopian nationals who have been in prison in the Gulf state for a variety of offenses.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries have been strong over the years. The issue of immigration brought the relationship to light during the better part of last year.
