Ethiopia establishes a new press secretariat office which includes federal Government Communication Affairs Office and runs under the prime minister office.
The new office which is established under proclamation number 1097/2011 is expected to help government officials build relationships with the public and the media.
Billene Seyoum, a young female professional, is appointed as press secretary at the office of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as of Monday, November 7, 2018.
She is to be assisted by another woman, as Helen Yosef, was also confirmed as deputy press secretary. Both Billene & Helen have extensive experiences in communications & journalism, the independently-owned Addis Standard reported.
Speaking at the introduction event with the media which is held on Monday, Billene said that the secretariat would prepare regular media briefing schedule.
Shimeles Abdissa, one of the executive committee of Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) has appointed to head as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister replacing Fitsum Aregaa, who served in the position since Abiy Ahmed came to power.
Fitsum announced that he is leaving the office to serve the government in another capacity.
