The Ethiopia Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said Monday that 117 Ethiopians who living in difficult conditions in Libya have returned home today in a special flight.
The refugees returned to Ethiopia with the assistance of the Ethiopian Embassy in Egypt in collaboration with other international immigrant International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Apart from providing rehabilitation support, the Embassy will work to return the rest other immigrants from Libya and other countries where Ethiopian immigrants are found.
It is estimated that every year thousands of Ethiopians use Egypt as a transit point to smuggle themselves to European destinations by crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
An unknown number of Ethiopians are also thought to use Egypt’s Sinai desert annually as a transit point to reach Israel.
In search of better life many Ethiopian, especially young boys and girls traveled to various countries crossing dangerous places.
According to reports from International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ethiopia has registered one of the highest migrating people in recent years.
