At least thirteen ethnic Somalis were killed, seven from one family, yesterday in Babile, Tulli Guled and Chinaksen in East Hararghe zone of the Oromia regional state, according to Addis standard online.
According to the report the killings are blamed on Oromo militias but there is no information as to what triggered the attack.
After the killing, the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF ) one of a separatist rebel group which recently signed a peace deal with the regional government released a statement in its twitter page yesterday.
“strongly condemns the indiscriminate massacre of innocent Somalis,” and said, “this occurred as Federal forces were stationed in the very locations where the brutal massacres took place.” The 13 bodies are now in Jigjiga referral hospital, ONLF said.
Two weeks ago, at least 41 people were killed 20 injured by paramilitary forces in Eastern Harerge over the weekend in ethnic divide conflict.
It was widely reported that heavily armed members of a paramilitary force from the Somali region had carried out cross-border attacks in Oromiya’s East Hararghe district.
Unrest between borders of the two regions first broke out in September, displacing nearly a million people.
Weeks ago violence and attack in Somali regional state, especially in the capital, Jigjiga killed several people and displaced thousands.
Abdi Mohamed Omer, the former president of the regional states, has been arrested in Addis Ababa following the incidents, human rights violation, instigating conflicts between ethnics and religions, and other crimes are mentioned as reasons for his arrest, according to Attorney General.
