A three-member delegation of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), led by Adani of the Front, arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday.
Heads of Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) announced a unilateral ceasefire and returned home.
Three members of the delegation led by Abdulkadr Hermoge, Spokesperson, was welcomed by Kassahun Gofa, State Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office (GCOA), upon arrival at the bole international airport.
The move is following the call from prime minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) with the intention of creating a stable political sphere in the Somali regional state, said Abdulkadr.
The spokesperson further stated that the front declared a unilateral ceasefire as of Sunday, Aug 12, 2018, to silence the guns in the region.
The Front said that it would cease all military and security operations to find an available and lasting solution to the Ogaden conflict, reads the statement from ONLF.
ONLF declared ceasefire by taking into account the positive steps taken by the Ethiopian government to lay the groundwork for talks and peaceful negotiations, the statement added.
“ONLF has decided to engage in a peaceful struggle, by taking the government’s effort in respecting human rights into account,” said spokesperson.
The government would provide the necessary support to these political parties so that they will get prepared for the upcoming election, Kassahun for his part said.
Following the call from the prime minister, Abiy Ahmed (PhD) political parties returned home to participate in a peaceful and democratic political system.
Recently, Leaders of Patriotic Ginbot 7, an exiled opposition party, headed by Birhanu Nega (Prof.) has announced a plan to return home, appreciating the new reforms by the current leadership.
Last week, Workneh Gebeyehu (PhD) , foreign minister and Lemma Megersa, president of Oromia regional state, went to Eritrea and discussed with Dawud Ibssa, and other leaders of OLF.
Abiy Ahmed has frequently been heard that his government welcomes any opposition group based abroad to come and join the peaceful democratic political participation in the nation.
