The Office of the Prime Minister announced the members of the Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund Council. Prominent personalities, academicians, activists & practitioners, have been included in the list.
The advisory council expects to undertake a comprehensive plan for the fund including mechanisms for high-level accountability and transparency, project selection criteria for funding and identification of practical means to generate wide public support for the Fund in the global Ethiopian DIaspora, according to Prime Minister Office.
The council plans to seek input from Ethiopian diaspora communities to ensure that their voice is heard in the establishment and administration of the fund, reads the statement.
On July 6, 2008, in a statement before the House of People representatives, PM Abiy Ahmed Challenged all Ethiopian in the diaspora to make a dollar a day contributions for vital development f and social projects.

“If we could get 1 million dollars a day from the estimated 3 million diaspora Ethiopians, we could generate 30 million dollars a month, This money will not be part of the government budget, It will be administered through its independent board,” Prime minister Abiy told Parliament,
Prime minister, Abiy’s challenge, has been accepted enthusiastically through the Ethiopian Diaspora as seen in his recent visit in the U.S.
In response to PM call, a different group f well known Ethiopians scholars business executives and other professionals have volunteered to coordinate the diaspora efforts for the fund.
It is recalled that a Diaspora Trust Fund account which is opened in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia as 1000255726725 last month.
During his speech in the parliament, Abiy has also urged the Diaspora to use the official banking system to send remittance.
