Lensa Mekonnen is assigned as the new CEO of the Ethiopian Tourism Organization (ETO), Addis Fortune reports.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed her to the position which was an open vacant position for months since the Yohannes Tilahun has removed from his chair.
Last week she received an appointment letter from the PM to led Ethiopian Tourism Organization which was headed by Yohannes, who was sacked from the position following a disagreement in the Board members and ETO.
Lensa was public relations and communications experts who work in consultation and advising in the areas of leadership development.
Appointed by Hailemariam Desalegn, the former prime minister of Ethiopia, Yohannes Tilahun was working as a CEO since May 2017.
After the establishment of Tourism Transformation Council in 2013, by the proclamation number 294/2013, ETO and Tourism Board are established with the object of positioning tourism as one of the five strategic economic sectors in Ethiopia.
Oversees by Tewolde Gebremariam, the CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines, Tourism Board is responsible for managing and controlling every activity of ETO.
Ministry of Culture and Tourism, , Ministry of Immigration, Ethiopian Investment Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority, Authority for the Research and Conservation of the Cultural Heritage (ARCCH),Ethiopian Federal Police Commission and Ethiopian Government Communication Office are some of the organizations which constitute members of Tourism Board.
The tourism board representatives are picked from government and private organizations which has an impact on the development of tourism in the country.
