The two synods of Ethiopian Orthodox Church agreed to end the long animosity and join to work together.
According to sources the two parties have agreed to unite and form one synod and work the church together.
The move is following the negotiation between the local and exiled Synods which bases in the US.
A week before Ethiopian Orthodox Church has dispatched a team of three archbishops to the United States of America and the two parties were hold talks yesterday and reached in agreement.
Some say the union is indicative of Ethiopia’s new political atmosphere.
More than 40% of Ethiopia’s 100 million population are members of the church.
Following the agreement, Abune Merkorios could return home soon after over two decades, according to sources close to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
A statement will be issued on Friday at the end of the peace and reconciliation conference which is held in the United States of America.
Recently Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) hold talks with the team of archbishops who take parts in the negotiation process.
